Responsible for planning, organizing, implementing, and administering an educational and recreational program for hospitalized children for both Inpatient and Ambulatory pediatric services. Responsible for implementing and maintaining a program that is designed to further the social, emotional, intellectual, and physical growth of children in the hospital environment. The Child Life Specialist is also responsible for policy information and overall program. Child Life Specialist designs, implements, and evaluates programs that assess and treat the psychosocial, developmental, and educational needs of children and their families in the healthcare setting. Principal Duties and Responsibilities Collaborates with members of the multidiscipline team. Utilizes therapeutic techniques to decrease anxiety and foster positive coping skills. Promotes family-centered care and a child-friendly environment to support the unique needs of children and families. Prepares children and families for surgical procedures. Encourages developmental and therapeutic play opportunities to promote socialization, normalization, and outlets for self-expression. Qualifications Child Life certification to be obtained within one year of hire. Bachelor's degree required; Master's preferred. 2 years' experience in a hospital setting required.
