The Whitney’s summer internship program is a full-time, paid, nine-week session primarily for undergraduate students. The program includes training, direct work experience, professional development, and a weekly speaker series. The 2025 Summer internship will be hybrid, meaning interns will work onsite at least three days per week. The program will begin on Monday, June 2, and end on Friday, August 1. Participants must be available Monday through Friday for nine consecutive weeks, five days per week.

The Whitney seeks a Community Programs and Partnerships intern in the Education department for the Spring 2025 semester. The Whitney’s Community Programs and Partnerships department aims to build pathways for New Yorkers to engage with the richness and complexity of American art. Through partnerships, we work to build sustained connections that go beyond the single museum visit, bringing art, ideas, and dialogue to classrooms, senior centers, and community-based organizations around the city. Expected Projects & Assignments
  • Providing support for virtual/onsite programs and special events
  • Assisting with virtual sessions, workshops, and courses for community partners and senior centers by preparing curriculum materials for freelance educators
  • Researching artists in the Whitney’s collection and current exhibitions 
  • Assisting freelance educators offsite at community partnerships
  • Administrative support and maintenance of community programs spaces
  • Completion of a final intern project connected to community programs and partnerships
Skills & Qualifications
  • Passionate about and have some knowledge of contemporary art and social movements (i.e. immigrant justice, racial justice, LGBTQ justice, disability justice)
  • Be currently enrolled in or recently graduated with a degree in education, museum studies, disability studies, studio art, art history, or a related field
  • Proficiency in Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, or ASL a plus
  • Undergraduates currently enrolled in accredited academic year programs are eligible
  • Applicants must have completed a minimum of one year’s worth of academic coursework; undergraduate freshmen are not eligible
  • While a demonstrated interest in art and art history is preferred, students in all majors are encouraged to apply
  • Previous museum experience is not required

Outcomes
  • Intern will gain knowledge of how to produce educational programming at a cultural institution, how to prepare, and learn about inclusive programming

Compensation 
Interns will be paid a stipend of $6,500 for full participation.
Generous support for Hearst Summer Interns is provided by the William Randolph Hearst Foundation.
