Job Summary – Senior Interior Designer

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Interior Designer to lead high-end residential and commercial design projects from concept to completion. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in both creative leadership and client engagement, combining strong design sensibility, technical expertise, and strategic thinking to execute exceptional projects.

As a Senior Interior Designer, you will be responsible for developing innovative design concepts, managing project schedules, overseeing deliverables, and ensuring seamless collaboration with architects, contractors, and clients. You will also play a key role in mentoring junior designers, maintaining the highest design standards, and driving project efficiency.

Beyond project execution, this position offers an opportunity to build strong client relationships and engage with the design and real estate community, helping to enhance SmartDesign’s industry presence. Key Responsibilities

Creative Leadership & Design Execution:

• Lead the design process for high-end residential and commercial projects, ensuring a balance of aesthetics, function, and feasibility.
• Develop compelling design concepts, space plans, and material selections that align with client vision and project goals.
• Oversee and review AutoCAD drawings, including floor plans, elevations, and millwork details.
• Ensure all designs and presentations meet SmartDesign’s high-quality standards while staying within budget and timeline constraints.

Project Scheduling & Deliverables Management:

• Create and manage detailed project schedules, tracking key milestones and deliverables.
• Collaborate with team members, vendors, and contractors to keep projects on time and on budget.
• Identify potential design and execution challenges early and implement solutions proactively.

Client & Industry Engagement:

• Act as a trusted advisor to clients, ensuring their vision is brought to life while guiding them through the design and construction process.
• Strengthen long-term client relationships through excellent communication and design execution.
• Represent SmartDesign at industry events, networking functions, and design conferences, helping to increase the firm’s visibility and credibility.

Team Leadership & Mentorship:

• Mentor and oversee junior and associate designers, providing guidance and fostering their growth.
• Lead design critiques and team discussions to refine and elevate project quality.
• Foster a collaborative, structured, and inspiring studio culture.

Requirements & Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Interior Design, Architecture, or a related field.
• Experience: 7+ years of experience in high-end residential or commercial interior design .
• Project Management Skills:
• Strong ability to develop and manage project schedules.
• Comfortable coordinating between design, procurement, and construction teams.
• Technical Skills:
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite.
• Experience with rendering software (Enscape, Lumion, or V-Ray) is a plus.
• Strong understanding of NYC building codes, DOB requirements, and permitting processes.
• Soft Skills:
• Excellent leadership and team management skills.
• Strong presentation, communication, and client relationship management abilities.
• Ability to problem-solve quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
