Groundworks is looking for a seasoned

Director of

Communications

to join our corporate team in Virginia Beach, VA.

The Senior Director of Communications will be responsible for developing and executing comprehensive communication strategies that enhance Groundworks' public image and foster internal employee engagement. This role will lead public relations efforts, manage organic social media channels, oversee event management, and strengthen internal communications and employee engagement initiatives.

Job Responsibilities

Public Relations:

Develop and implement strategic PR campaigns to enhance Groundworks' visibility and reputation. Cultivate and maintain relationships with media representatives and industry influencers. Work with our agency partners to prepare press releases, media kits, and other communication materials. Organic Social Media:

Lead the creation and execution of organic social media strategy and content development to grow audience engagement and brand presence. Monitor social media trends and analytics to refine strategies and enhance overall effectiveness. Monetize organic social media fans and followers to generate qualified leads. Event Management:

Plan, organize, and execute high-impact events that promote Groundworks' mission and engagement with key stakeholders. Coordinate logistics, vendor relationships, and promotional activities to ensure successful event outcomes. Evaluate the impact of events and leverage feedback for future improvements. Internal Communications and Employee Engagement:

Develop and manage internal communication strategies to ensure the effective flow of information across the organization. Create engaging content for internal communications, including our quarterly newsletter, that foster a strong organizational culture. Lead initiatives aimed at enhancing employee engagement and satisfaction, including surveys and feedback mechanisms. Qualifications

Bachelor's degree from an accredited university. Advanced degree in a supporting field a plus. Must have at least 10+ years of experience in public relations, marketing, journalism, internal communications or related field with a proven track record of leadership. Knowledge of media and communications principles, ethics, practices, and techniques, including technical requirements. Experience in managing social media platforms and understanding relevant analytics tools. Comfortable collaborating on the company's message with senior leadership and key shareholders. Exceptional skill in written and oral communications, including business writing, news writing/editing for print and broadcast, conversing by telephone and conducting presentations to large or small groups. Existing connections in the media industry is a strong plus for candidates to help further the Groundworks message. Strong project management skills, with ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Ability to travel to support our diverse geographic footprint (1-2 trips per month).
