The Medical Assistant supports healthcare providers by performing administrative and clinical tasks to ensure efficient patient flow and high-quality care. This role involves patient interaction, preparing examination rooms, assisting with procedures, handling medical records, and managing front-office tasks. The ideal candidate is compassionate, detail-oriented, and has a strong understanding of medical protocols and office procedures.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Clinical Support :

    • Prepare patients for examination by taking vitals, obtaining medical histories, and documenting information in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
    • Assist providers during exams, procedures, and treatments as needed.
    • Administer medications, vaccinations, and injections as directed by the provider.
    • Collect and process lab specimens, perform basic lab tests, and prepare samples for external lab testing.
  • Patient Interaction :

    • Greet and prepare patients for appointments, ensuring they are informed of the process and comfortable.
    • Educate patients on procedures, treatments, and follow-up care as directed by the provider.
    • Answer patient questions regarding medications, treatments, and procedures with clarity and empathy.
  • Administrative Duties :

    • Schedule appointments, manage provider calendars, and handle patient check-in/check-out processes.
    • Verify patient information, insurance details, and assist with pre-authorizations and referrals.
    • Maintain accurate patient records and ensure all necessary documentation is completed in a timely manner.
  • Office and Exam Room Maintenance :

    • Clean and disinfect exam rooms and instruments between patient visits to ensure a safe environment.
    • Restock supplies and ensure exam rooms are ready for use.
    • Order medical supplies as needed and keep an inventory of office stock.
  • Compliance and Safety :

    • Follow all HIPAA guidelines to maintain patient confidentiality.
    • Adhere to infection control protocols and safety procedures to maintain a safe and sterile environment.
    • Participate in ongoing training and keep up-to-date with healthcare best practices.

Qualifications :

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a certified Medical Assistant program preferred.
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA, or equivalent) is preferred but not required in some practices.
  • Prior experience in a healthcare setting is beneficial, but entry-level candidates with certification will also be considered.
  • Proficiency with EHR systems and basic computer applications.
