Job Description

Rincon Consultants, Inc. is seeking an Environmental Sciences Intern who will assist professional staff within Rincon's Environmental and Earth Systems (EES) Group. EES provides a diverse client base with technical and regulatory expertise to address complex environmental issues focused in the areas of assessment and remediation, watershed sciences, and water resources and a nexus with climate resilience. We are seeking an enthusiastic, entrepreneurial, and motivated individual who excels working in a fast-paced, evolving practice. While this role offers flexible work arrangements that include a mix of in-office and remote work, changing business needs ultimately determine level of remote-work flexibility. This position is being offered at our Los Angeles office.

Students applying for this internship can also apply to be part of the Environmental, Engineering, and Planning Internship and Charrette (EEPIC) program, a partnership with six leading consulting firms-Ascent, Dudek, EPS, ESA, Fehr & Peers, and PlaceWorks. This program creates opportunities for students from groups historically under-represented, including but not limited to those who represent Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC), as well as veterans, disabled individuals, and/or students who are first in their families to go to college. In addition to a three-month Rincon internship, EEPIC participants join a two-week charrette, collaborating with interns from partner firms on a real-world planning challenge proposed by a city, county, or agency. Overview of Key Duties and Responsibilities
  • Curate and assimilate chemical and biological data into Rincon style reports to comply with regulatory requirements
  • Contribute to writing project-specific scopes, proposals, and budgets
  • Design and write project specific Sampling Plans, Quality Assurance Project Plans, and Health and Safety Plans
  • Perform technical and regulatory literature reviews and effectively summarize
  • Create slide decks for internal group and client meetings
  • Work with staff to understand site-specific regulatory requirements, including permitting related to stormwater runoff, industrial discharges, construction, and watershed total maximum daily loads (TMDLs)
  • Contribute to planning and implementation of Environmental Site Assessments (ESAs) for a variety of business sectors
  • Perform data review and data management for ESAs
  • Communicate often and effectively with mid-level and senior staff
  • Promote a culture of teamwork, engagement, quality service, and client satisfaction
  • Contribute to Rincon's professional reputation and demonstrate the ability to be creative and innovative
This Job Might Be For You If You Have The Following:
  • Incoming undergraduate juniors, seniors, in-progress graduate students, and those who recently graduated in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, Climate Change/ Sustainability or related fields
  • Experience using Microsoft Office; PowerPoint, Word, Excel required
  • Experience using R, R Studio, GIS, Python (or other language) desired
  • Excellent communication skills, verbally and written, to a variety of audiences
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Highly motivated with strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Detail-oriented, resourceful, strong time management skills, and innovative
