Job Description

Research!America, a nonprofit membership alliance that advocates for science, discovery, and innovation to achieve better health for all, is seeking a Director of Communications. The director will directly oversee social media platforms and assist our media relations and other external communications functions. Responsibilities include: Create daily content for Research!America’s social media channels, including X (Twitter), Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and other channels as they arise. Ideal candidate should have experience in creating engaging content with graphics and other art elements. Manage media monitoring and pull together regular reports on media mentions of Research!America and stakeholders. Co-write and edit the Weekly Letter which is distributed every Thursday. Distribute press releases to a cultivated media list and distribute Weekly Letter to a wider audience via Charity Engine. Develop talking points for stakeholders when needed. Develop presentations for leadership and provide other corporate communications support. As a member of the Communications Team, provide administrative support for routine office operations as well as special projects. Supervision of communications intern. Other duties as needed. Minimum Qualifications: Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree, a minimum of 8 years of experience with proficiency working with Microsoft Office and office technologies, social media platforms, and media monitoring platforms. An ideal candidate will be a self-starter who is a strong writer and possesses strategic communications skills. Prior experience with social media, social media graphic development, and media relations is a must; experience with science and medical topics is a plus. Research!America offers a competitive salary (salary range: $95,000 – $112,000, based on experience) and benefits that include medical, dental, and vision coverage; life insurance; long- and short-term disability insurance; a 403(b) retirement plan; tuition reimbursement; and parking or Metro benefits. This position offers a hybrid work schedule with 2 days a week in the office, with other days working remotely.
